The 20,000m2 commercial office building was designed under the direction of the development manager Leighton Properties on behalf of the owner Makamatta Pty Ltd. The building reflects the tenant, National Information Communication Technology Australia (NICTA), a company built on research, education, commercialisation and linkage. Their objective is to become an enduring world-class ICT research institute that generates wealth for the company and the country.
The highly visible space that opens directly from the main street level lobby is a focus for interactivity between NICTA and the public, its partners and industry. Collaborative areas wrap around the upper level of the foyer and are visible from the atrium.
The integration of environmentally sustainable design principles were fundamental to the design approach. Woods Bagot was committed to creating an energy efficient building that maximised natural light and fresh air for workplace and break-out areas. The building achieves an AGBR energy rating of four stars and a Green Star Design Rating of four stars.
