Biotech Clusters in Europe - “Biotech Clusters get a Shot in the Arm”

Location, location, location is all-important for start-up biomedical research companies. Government in Europe are playing a key role in offering dedicated real estate and infrastructure support to attract businesses into a thriving biotech cluster. Regional centres such as Lyon, Strasbourg and Grenoble are using a model pioneered in France. And in Germany, central government promotions have spurred the formation of several clusters in regional centres. Meanwhile, Scandanavia’s thriving regional cluster – the so-called Medicon Valley - has grown with government funding for a fast road link between Denmark and Sweden and direct venture capital and business development grants. Dedicated science parks in England not only support great UK research but propel the industry toward production and manufacturing.
